Cinematic Vampires

Fright Night

This was a sort of campy vampire movie released in 1985. We first meet Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) and his girlfriend Amy Peterson (Amanda Bearse) as they are making out in Charley's room. Charley halts the foreplay in order to watch an episode of his favorite tv show, a late night horror show featuring Peter Vincent : The Vampire Killer (Roddy McDowell).

Then, Charley sees something through his window, something about his new next door neighbor that rouses his suspicions. We are introduced to the neighbors, Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon) and Billy Cole (Jonathan Stark).

Charley goes to Peter Vincent, his hero, to try to convince him there are real vampires in the neighborhood. Only to realize that Peter Vincent is only a cowardly actor pretending to be a vampire killer. As Charley tries to rouse his friends to awareness of the fact that a vampire has moved in next door, the vampire goes after Charley's friends. First to fall is Evil Ed (Stephen Geoffreys). Jerry goes after Ed in an alley, bites him and turns him into a vampire that has the ability to turn to a wolf. But, Peter Vincent makes short work of him. Then, Jerry targets Amy. She seems to be some reincarnated love he once had.

After having to kill wolfish Evil Ed, Peter Vincent begins to believe young Charley and they team up to take out the vampire and his bodyguard and get Amy back.

At some point in time, they face down a female vampire and the bodyguard. Then, they have to face Jerry Dandrige himself.

This movie wasn't too bad as far as vampires go. The melting scene of Jerry is fairly gruesome. Both Charley and Peter Vincent live to star in the sequel, which was not quite as great.
