Cinematic Vampires
This 1998 movie caught my eye on the new release shelf of my video store. Being a vampire flick, I picked up the box to read the back. It sounded stupid. However, nothing sounded better, so I took it home. Despite all attempts to hate it totally, the stupid thing actually grew on me and I ended up liking it.
Lilith Silver (played by Eileen Daly) was killed in a duel between her lover and Sethane Blake (played by Christopher Adamson). Sethane killed her lover and so she shot at him. Sethane's second then shot Lilith, but Sethane, secretly being a vampire, revived her and turned her into a vampire. There are a few flashes back to the time period when she was just earning her fangs, but for the most part, the movie takes place in the present.
She is a hit woman, a bad-ass bitch who kills her marks first by sucking them dry and then covering their wounds with bullet holes. She is being tracked by Detective Inspector Price (played by Jonathan Cote), but little does he know that he is her next kill. She receives her assignments from a man she mysteriously names Platinum (played by Kevin Howarth). [I found Platinum rather nice-looking.]
There are some fun scenes where Lilith is hanging out in a vampire bar called Transilvania and she is hypothesizing what kind of a life a vampire would lead to the vampire-wannabes. Guys will enjoy the kill scenes the most - Lilith all decked out in tight leather, breasts bulging from the zipper and guns a-blazing. There's even a lesbian scene. However, don't watch too closely - a lot of her victims seem to get kicked (or shot) in the balls.
While I probably will not go out and buy this movie for my personal collection, I do believe I'd advocate watching it at least once. It has a great surprise ending. Check it out and disagree with me.
