Other Vampire Tales

Anno Dracula - Kim Newman

A very strange tale about what might have happened had Dracula succeeded against his foes in Dracula and if Jack the Ripper was walking the streets of London at the same time. If I remember correctly, Arthur Holmwood is now a vampire, as most of elite society is. Jack Seward is also a prominent character.

Children of the Night - Dan Simmons

It's been a long time since I read this one, so forgive me. For now, I have my info from the back of the cover. This one involves dying children in Romania, blood transfusions, a key to cancer and AIDS and yes, a tie-in to the one and only Vlad Dracula. I'll get more specific as time allows.

Dracula - Bram Stoker

The one. The only. The ultimate vampire novel. Follow through the tale of the Harker's, Lucy Westenra, Quincy Morris, Jack Seward, Arthur Holmwood and VanHelsing as they do battle with the dignified vampire Dracula. An excellent read.

The Dracula Story Continues : Mina - Marie Kiraly

This is a sequel, of sorts, to Dracula, told about Mina after her soul is saved by the stake through Dracula's heart. Was their spell really broken? How can a mortal woman return to an ordinary life after having tasted the blood of the vampire? This book almost seems to present the love story that Francis Ford Coppola used for his interpretation of the the film Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Salem's Lot - Stephen King

One of King's earlier novels, this one takes place in Maine, in the 1970's. A writer returns to the Lot, where he spent some years in his childhood, and rapidly becomes involved in a hunt for a newly relocated vampire. I read this one a long time and didn't think anything of it. I recently reread it, and it certainly made me think twice about leaving any windows open at night.
